Weekend Getaways
A weekend trip is the sweet spot for many cat travelers — long enough to be worth bringing your cat instead of hiring a sitter, short enough that the disruption is manageable.
Planning Ahead
Book cat-friendly accommodation before you go. Not every hotel, Airbnb, or campground allows cats, and the ones that do often have specific rules about pet fees, room locations, and whether cats can be left in the room unattended. See the lodging hub for details.
Packing for a Weekend
Everything from the full packing list applies, but you can scale down. One bag of litter, one set of bowls, two days of food, and your cat's medications. Bring a portable litter box and set it up as soon as you arrive at your destination.
At the Destination
When you arrive, set up a "home base" for your cat in the room before you open the carrier. Put out the litter box, water, food, and a familiar blanket. Then open the carrier and let your cat explore at their own pace. Many cats will hide under the bed for the first hour — this is normal. They'll come out when they're ready.
